The OSG 10156205 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel and alloy steel applications. It measures 0.1562 inches (5/32 inch) in diameter with a 130-degree split point angle and an overall length of 2-7/16 inches. Constructed from cobalt high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit handles demanding materials where standard HSS tooling wears prematurely. The X-thinned web reduces thrust load at the tip, improving penetration in harder stock. It features a straight-cylindrical shank for use in standard drill chucks and is configured for right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance technicians working in metal fabrication shops are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for screw machine and short-hole drilling operations in steel and alloy steel workpieces. The screw machine length format — shorter than jobber length — provides added rigidity and reduced deflection, making it well suited for drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes where stub reach is preferred. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in short, blind, and through holes without coolant-through capability required. It is sold individually as a single-piece package.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling selection for screw machine length drill bit applications in Series 1000, compatible with any drill press, CNC machining center, or turret lathe accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating tooling safety practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and de-energized before changing or seating the bit in the chuck or collet. Verify shank seating depth and chuck jaw engagement before initiating a cut. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for cobalt HSS tooling in the workpiece material being drilled.
