The OSG 1014400 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed to cut internal 8-32 UNC threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent thread form in through-hole and blind-hole applications where full thread depth to the bottom of the hole is required. The 4-flute design provides strong cutting action and chip clearance in materials with good machinability. With an overall length of 2.125 inches and a thread length of 0.47 inches, this tap fits standard tap holders and driver chucks used in manual and machine tapping setups.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance tapping operations in metalworking, fabrication, and machining environments. The bottoming chamfer - typically 1 to 2 threads of lead - allows threading to within one or two pitches of the bottom of a blind hole. It is commonly used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance mechanics working in job shop, OEM manufacturing, and industrial repair settings. The 3B class of fit produces a standard tolerance thread suitable for most general-purpose fastening applications. Listed material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel.
Designed for use in OSG Series 102 straight flute tap applications. Compatible with standard 8-32 UNC tap holders, T-handle tap wrenches, and machine tapping chucks. Material application includes aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel.
Secure the workpiece before tapping to prevent movement during threading. Use an appropriate cutting oil or tapping fluid matched to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. For blind holes, ensure the drill depth provides adequate clearance below the required thread depth before using a bottoming tap. Follow standard machining safety practices: wear eye protection and keep hands clear of rotating tooling when machine tapping.
