The OSG 1010105 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting 0-80 UNF internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers increased surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tools. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in over several threads, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. At 1-5/8 inches overall length with a 5/16 inch thread length and 2-flute geometry, it is sized for the fine-pitch, small-diameter work common in precision machining, instrument assembly, and electronics fabrication.
This tap is intended for use in through-hole applications where chip clearance is not a primary concern. The 2B class of fit produces a standard commercial thread tolerance suitable for most fastener and assembly applications. Material compatibility includes aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel, covering the bulk of shop and field machining scenarios. The H2 thread limit designation indicates a ground thread tolerance appropriate for 2B class fits. It is sold individually and packaged as a single unit.
Designed for cutting 0-80 UNF internal threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 102.
This tap is installed by machinists and tooling technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping cycle. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before applying torque to avoid tap breakage at this small diameter. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tool life. Follow shop safety procedures for small-diameter tap handling, as 0-80 taps are brittle and susceptible to breakage under misalignment or excessive feed force.
