The OSG 1005910900 is a solid carbide straight flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in a range of metallic materials. It produces 3/8-24 UNF right-hand threads and is configured with a bottoming chamfer, making it the right choice when threads must extend to the bottom of a blind hole with minimal lead-in. Four flutes provide good chip clearance and cutting stability. At 2-15/16 inches overall length with a 1-1/4 inch thread length, this tap is sized for standard machine tapping operations. It carries a 2B class of fit, which meets the general-purpose tolerance standard for most threaded fastener applications. Machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for machine tapping in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and tapping machines where straight flute geometry is preferred. The solid carbide construction and bright uncoated finish make it well-matched to non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, cast aluminum, and copper alloys, as well as harder ferrous materials including cast iron and cobalt chrome. It is a Series 10059 tool and is intended for production and maintenance machining environments where threading to the bottom of a blind hole is required.

This tap is intended for installation by machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with machine tapping operations. Secure the tap in a properly sized tapping chuck or rigid holder before use; do not hand-drive solid carbide taps. Ensure the spindle is stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing or inspecting the tool. Verify tap drill diameter and hole depth against the thread specification before starting the operation, as bottoming taps provide minimal lead-in and require an accurately prepared hole.
