The OSG 1000300 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in a 1-64 UNC configuration. It features 2 flutes and a taper chamfer for easy thread entry, and is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish. The taper chamfer distributes cutting forces gradually, making it well suited for through-hole and blind-hole applications in softer metals. With an overall length of 1.6875 inches and a thread length of 0.375 inches, this tap is sized for fine-pitch, small-diameter threading work. A 3B class of fit and H1 thread limit ensure dimensional accuracy within standard tolerance requirements. Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance professionals using standard tap handles or machine tapping equipment.
This tap is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It is suited for both hand tapping and machine tapping operations where a 1-64 UNC thread form is required. The right-hand thread direction and taper chamfer make it a standard choice for production and maintenance shops handling small fastener thread repairs or new thread creation in light-gauge components.
Designed for tapping 1-64 UNC internal threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 102.
This tap is installed using a standard tap wrench or machine tapping chuck sized to a 0.141-inch shank diameter. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before beginning the threading operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to reduce heat and extend tap life. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly, as small-diameter taps are susceptible to breakage under side load or misalignment.
