The ORTRONICS QMC-MFSB-01-03 is a media converter that bridges 10/100BaseT copper Ethernet connections to 100Base-FX fiber optic links using an ST-type multimode connector. It allows network technicians and low-voltage cabling professionals to extend or integrate fiber segments into copper-based network infrastructure without replacing existing switches or endpoints. The converter handles both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps copper-side speeds and outputs a 100Base-FX signal over multimode fiber, making it a practical solution for building-to-building runs or segments where copper distance limits have been reached.
This unit is suited for commercial and light industrial network installations where multimode fiber backbone cabling terminates at an equipment room or wiring closet. It is typically installed by network cabling technicians or low-voltage contractors working on structured cabling systems. The ST connector interface is common in legacy and institutional fiber plant installations, making this converter a straightforward fit for those environments.
Designed as a standalone media converter for use with 10/100BaseT copper Ethernet equipment and 100Base-FX multimode fiber cabling terminated with ST connectors.
Installation should be performed by a qualified low-voltage or network cabling technician in accordance with applicable local codes and TIA/EIA structured cabling standards. Power down or disconnect the network equipment port before connecting or disconnecting the converter. Verify that the multimode fiber plant uses ST connectors and is rated for 100Base-FX operation before installation. Do not connect the fiber port to single-mode fiber plant, as this unit is specified for multimode use only.
