The ORBIT 54500 is an adjustable pop-up sprinkler head designed for professional irrigation installations in both residential and commercial landscapes. It features a 2-inch pop-up height and an adjustable side strip spray pattern with a coverage radius of 10 to 15 feet. The head uses a dual-seal cap design - a radial seal and a face seal - combined with two additional riser seals to prevent leaks at all connection points. The 1/2-inch FNPT inlet provides standard thread compatibility for quick integration into existing lateral lines. Licensed irrigation contractors and experienced landscape technicians are the primary installers of this type of head.
The 54500 is suited for narrow side-yard strips, planting beds, and turf borders where a standard rotary or full-pattern nozzle would overspray. Its adjustable pattern makes it practical for irregularly shaped zones and high-maintenance landscape areas that require precise water placement. The side strip pattern is particularly useful along hardscape edges such as walkways, driveways, and fence lines where overspray onto paved surfaces must be minimized. It is sold individually, making it easy to replace a single failed head without purchasing a multipack.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation sprinkler head for standard 1/2-inch FNPT residential and commercial irrigation lateral lines.
Installation should be performed by a licensed irrigation contractor or qualified landscape professional familiar with local water-use and backflow-prevention codes. Shut off the irrigation zone valve and relieve line pressure before removing or installing any sprinkler head. Flush the lateral line before threading the head onto the fitting to remove debris that could clog the nozzle. After installation, verify pattern adjustment and radius with a live pressure test before backfilling or closing the trench.
