The OPTEX kx-08 is a ceiling-mounted passive infrared (PIR) motion detector designed for wide-angle intrusion detection in commercial and residential security systems. It delivers 360-degree horizontal coverage with an 85-degree vertical field and a 76-zone detection pattern for dense, reliable coverage across the protected area. The kx-08 integrates Quad-Zone-Logic with built-in Pet Tolerance (PT) technology to reduce false alarms caused by small animals while maintaining strong catch performance. A licensed security technician or alarm installer performs the installation as part of a hardwired or compatible detection system.
The kx-08 is suited for retail environments, offices, warehouses, and residential spaces where wall-mounting is impractical or undesirable. Its low-profile ceiling mount design eliminates the need for wall or ceiling brackets, reducing vulnerable mounting points and keeping the installation clean and discreet. The sealed housing resists insect ingress, making it well suited for environments with stock, shelving, or display fixtures that might otherwise obstruct or mask a wall-mounted detector. It is based on the platform established by the OPTEX RX series PIR detector family.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation ceiling-mount PIR detector compatible with standard hardwired security and intrusion detection systems that accept conventional PIR sensor inputs.
Installation should be performed by a licensed alarm or low-voltage contractor in accordance with local codes and the system manufacturer's wiring guidelines. Power down the control panel and isolate the detection zone circuit before connecting or replacing the detector. Confirm ceiling height and mounting location provide unobstructed line-of-sight across the intended coverage area. Do not paint or obstruct the lens surface, as this will degrade detection performance.
