The ONSRUD 91-127 is a solid carbide, uncoated diamond-shaped milling insert designed for use in CNC routing and milling operations on wood-based and composite panel materials. It carries a VPGT insert style designation, a positive rake geometry, and a flat-top chip breaker configuration. The insert measures 0.25 inches thick with a 0.5512-inch inscribed circle and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.125 inches. Rated at material grade C2, this single-sided insert is held in place by a screw-mount method and features a neutral hand orientation. It is sold in packages of 10 and is intended for installation by experienced tooling technicians or CNC machinists familiar with indexable insert systems.
This insert is engineered for cutting particleboard, MDF, and balsa wood in production routing and milling environments. Its positive rake angle reduces cutting forces on these relatively soft, abrasive materials, helping to extend tool life and maintain clean edge quality. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for these non-ferrous, low-heat applications where coating adhesion and heat resistance are not primary concerns. The 91-127 is compatible with ONSRUD Series 91 cutter bodies and fits within the Series 91-000 and 91-100 families.
Designed for use with ONSRUD Series 91 cutter bodies, including the Series 91-000 and 91-100 families. Intended for cutting particleboard, MDF, and balsa. Inscribed circle range of 0.51 to 0.60 inches and thickness range of 0.25 to 0.35 inches define the dimensional fit envelope for compatible toolholders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully de-energized and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified by the cutter body manufacturer when tightening the insert screw - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for debris before indexing or replacing inserts. Always verify insert orientation matches the cutter body hand before resuming operation.
