The ONSRUD 63-796 is a single-edge upcut spiral router bit machined from solid carbide and designed for cutting plastics and engineered materials. It features a 0.5-inch cutter diameter, a 1.625-inch length of cut, and a 0.5-inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 3.5 inches. The upcut flute geometry pulls chips up and out of the cut, reducing heat buildup and material delamination at the cutting edge. The 21-degree right-hand helix angle promotes clean, consistent chip evacuation. This bit runs uncoated, which is appropriate for the low-friction demands of plastic machining. It is installed by CNC routing technicians and tool and die professionals working with sheet and fabricated plastic stock.
The 63-796 is suited for routing thermoplastics and engineering-grade polymers in both production and custom fabrication environments. Typical applications include profile routing, edge trimming, and through-cutting of sheet goods. The single-edge design reduces cutting forces on thin or flexible plastic sheet, minimizing flex and chatter. Compatible material applications include ABS, Acrylic, HDPE, HIPS, PE, PET, POM, PS, Polycarbonate, Polypropylene, Solid Surfaces, and UHMW.
Designed for use with CNC routers and production routing equipment accepting a 0.5-inch shank collet. Rated for ABS, Acrylic, HDPE, HIPS, PE, PET, POM, PS, Polycarbonate, Polypropylene, Solid Surfaces, and UHMW material applications.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the router spindle fully powered down and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Insert the shank fully into the collet and tighten to the router manufacturer's specified collet torque range using the appropriate collet wrench. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or damage before each use. Always verify spindle speed against the manufacturer's recommended RPM range for the cutter diameter and material being processed.
