The ONSRUD 63-628 is a single-edge upcut spiral router bit machined from solid carbide and designed for cutting aluminum. It carries a 0.2813-inch cutter diameter with a 0.4375-inch (7/16-inch) length of cut and a 5/16-inch shank diameter. The 22-degree helix angle and right-hand cutting direction promote efficient chip evacuation in the upcut orientation, pulling chips up and out of the cut. At 2.5 inches overall length and uncoated, this bit is suited for routing operations where a clean, consistent cut in aluminum stock is required. Machinists and CNC operators working in fabrication or production environments will find this bit sized for light-slot and profile work.
This router bit is intended for use in aluminum machining applications, including CNC routing of aluminum plate, sheet, and extrusions in light manufacturing, sign fabrication, and general metalworking. The single-edge design reduces cutting forces, which helps minimize deflection during passes in softer metals. The upcut flute geometry clears chips away from the workpiece surface, reducing heat buildup and improving surface finish. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers and handheld router setups where the 5/16-inch shank is compatible with the collet system in use.
Designed for use in CNC routers and machining centers fitted with a 5/16-inch collet. Intended material application is aluminum.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the collet is clean and undamaged before seating the shank. Verify that the bit is inserted to the full recommended shank engagement depth and that the collet nut is torqued according to the collet manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or damage before each use, and never exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the material being cut.
