The ONSRUD 62-630 is a downcut single-edge spiral router bit ground from solid carbide and engineered for cutting aluminum. It carries a 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) cutter diameter, a 3/4-inch length of cut, and a 1/2-inch shank diameter that seats securely in standard collet chucks. The downcut helix geometry directs chips downward into the cut, suppressing top-surface tear-out and producing a clean upper edge on sheet and plate material. A 22-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation with edge strength. The uncoated carbide substrate is appropriate for non-ferrous metal applications where coating adhesion or chemical reaction with the workpiece material is a concern. Licensed machinists and CNC routing technicians are the primary installers of this tooling.
This bit is suited for routing, profiling, and pocket-milling aluminum sheet, plate, and extrusions on CNC router tables and high-speed spindle platforms. The single-edge design limits chip re-cutting by providing maximum flute clearance per revolution, which is particularly useful at the elevated feed rates common in non-ferrous production work. The 2.25-inch shank length and 3-inch overall length give adequate reach for most fixture clearance requirements without introducing excessive overhang. It is used in both production shop environments and custom fabrication settings where surface finish on the top face of the workpiece is a priority.
Designed for use in 1/2-inch collet chucks on CNC routers and high-speed spindle platforms; intended material application is aluminum as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Insert the shank fully into the collet to the recommended minimum engagement depth per the router manufacturer guidelines, and tighten the collet nut with the appropriate spanner wrenches rather than impact tools. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate settings against the material and cutter diameter before resuming operation.
