The ONSRUD 62-618 is a single-edge downcut spiral router bit machined from solid carbide, designed for precise routing in aluminum and similar non-ferrous materials. The downcut flute geometry pushes chips downward during the cut, which reduces surface tearout on the top face of the workpiece and helps hold thin stock flat against the fixture. At 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches) in cutter diameter with a 5/8-inch length of cut, this bit handles narrow slot work, profiling, and detail passes where a larger tool would not fit. It carries a 1/4-inch shank diameter and measures 2 inches overall. Installation requires a compatible 1/4-inch collet router or CNC spindle.
This bit is suited for light-metal and soft-material routing applications, particularly aluminum sheet and plate work in fabrication and production environments. The 22-degree helix angle and right-hand cutting direction are optimized for clean, burr-minimized edges in aluminum. Woodworking shops also use downcut spirals of this geometry on laminates and veneered composites where top-surface finish is critical. The uncoated solid carbide construction offers sharp edge retention without the added runout risk that can accompany coated tools at small diameters.
Designed for use in any router or CNC spindle equipped with a 1/4-inch collet. Material application is rated for aluminum per manufacturer specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the collet. Seat the shank fully into the collet to the recommended engagement depth and torque the collet nut per the router or spindle manufacturer's specifications. Do not use this bit at feeds or speeds outside the manufacturer's recommended parameters for the material being cut.
