The ONSRUD 62-604 is a single-edge downcut spiral router bit machined from solid carbide for use in CNC routing and high-speed spindle applications. It features a 0.125-inch cutter diameter, a 0.25-inch length of cut, and a 1/8-inch shank diameter with a 1.25-inch shank length, yielding a 1.5-inch overall length. The downcut flute geometry directs chips downward, suppressing surface tearout on the top face of the workpiece. At 0.01 pounds, this is a lightweight precision tool designed for fine detail work in aluminum and similar non-ferrous materials.
The 62-604 is suited for CNC routing operations on aluminum sheet and plate stock in both production and prototype environments. Its single-edge design reduces cutting forces, which is advantageous when machining thin or unsupported material. The 22-degree helix angle and right-hand cutting direction make it appropriate for conventional milling passes in aluminum. Typical users include CNC machinists, fabrication shops, and production routing operations working with non-ferrous metals.
Part of the ONSRUD 62-600 series. Designed for CNC routers and high-speed spindles accepting a 1/8-inch collet, with material application specified for aluminum.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the collet to the recommended engagement depth per the machine manufacturer's guidelines, and torque the collet nut to specification using the appropriate collet wrenches. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or wear before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to damage from improper handling or interrupted cuts.
