The ONSRUD 60-172MW is a solid carbide compression spiral router bit designed for clean, chip-free cuts in double-sided laminated and veneered panel materials. The compression flute geometry combines an upcut and downcut spiral, pulling fibers inward from both faces of the workpiece simultaneously to eliminate tearout on top and bottom surfaces. At 0.5 inches in cutter diameter with a 1.625-inch length of cut, this bit handles standard sheet goods at full depth without deflection. The 30-degree helix angle and right-hand cutting direction are optimized for feed rates typical in production CNC routing environments. Shank diameter is 0.5 inches with a shank length of 2.375 inches.
This bit is suited for CNC routing operations on furniture components, cabinet parts, and architectural panels where both faces must remain blemish-free after cutting. The double-edge router style provides two cutting edges per pass, supporting efficient material removal in high-volume shop environments. Material applications include melamine-faced particleboard, MDF with veneer, HPL-faced substrates, and similar double-sided laminated sheet goods. It is not piloted and is intended for use in collet-style CNC spindles accepting a 0.5-inch shank. The uncoated solid carbide construction offers consistent edge life across standard laminated materials without the risk of coating delamination at elevated spindle speeds.
Designed for use with CNC routers equipped with 0.5-inch collet spindles. Material application is double-sided laminated and veneered panel products per manufacturer specification. Part of the ONSRUD 60-100MW series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC operator or tooling technician with the spindle fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Insert the shank fully into the collet to the recommended engagement depth before tightening to collet manufacturer torque specifications. Inspect the collet for wear or contamination before seating the bit, as a worn collet accelerates shank wear and increases runout. Follow the router manufacturer guidelines for RPM and feed rate settings appropriate to cutter diameter and workpiece material.
