The OATEY COMPANY 15050D is a professional-grade virgin PTFE thread seal tape designed for sealing threaded pipe and fitting connections across a wide range of piping systems. Measuring 0.5 inches wide by 260 feet long, this gray tape is 3.5 mil thick and carries a density range of 0.070 to 1.00 g/cc with a tensile strength rating of 10,000 psi. The heavy-duty construction allows for fewer wraps per connection compared to standard-weight tapes, while resisting tearing and ripping during application. Rated for temperatures from 450 to 500 degrees F, it is suited for demanding residential and commercial plumbing and gas service work. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians are the primary installers.
This tape is engineered to seal threads on virtually any piping system. Suitable applications include stainless steel pipe, cast iron, PVC, CPVC, ABS pipe, brass fittings, chrome fittings, and gas connections. Its chemically inert PTFE composition means it will not react with the fluids or gases in the system, making it appropriate for both water and gas service lines. The gray color provides improved visual contrast on stainless steel and chrome fittings for easier inspection after installation. It meets UL 31, RO 7N15, and MH18499 approval listings, satisfying common inspection and code requirements in the field.
Designed to seal threads on stainless steel pipe, cast iron pipe, PVC, CPVC, ABS pipe, brass fittings, chrome fittings, and gas connections across residential and commercial piping systems.
PTFE thread seal tape is installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians working on threaded pipe joints. Before applying tape, ensure the system is fully depressurized and isolated from any gas or water supply. Wrap the tape in the direction of the threads to prevent unwinding during assembly, and follow applicable code requirements such as the IPC or IFGC for the number of wraps required on gas connections. Do not use thread tape as the sole seal on flared or compression fittings.
