The OATEY COMPANY 025200-48 is a yellow pipe thread compound designed for sealing threaded pipe connections on gas and liquid lines. Known as Formula 55 Thread Seal, this slow-drying compound creates a pressure-tight seal that never seizes, making future disassembly straightforward. It is rated for gas lines up to 3,000 psi and liquid lines up to 6,000 psi, and it performs across a wide temperature range of -50 degrees F to 400 degrees F. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters apply this compound during pipe assembly on new construction and service work.

This thread sealant compound is suited for residential and commercial plumbing and gas piping applications, including LP and natural gas distribution lines. It bonds to all metals as well as plastic piping materials including PVC, CPVC, ABS, and nylon. Its slow-drying formula allows adjustment of fittings after initial assembly, which is useful in tight or complex installation scenarios. This product is UPC Listed and is sold in tube form.

Installation Notes

This product is applied by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on threaded pipe joints. Shut off all gas or fluid supply to the line before disassembling or reassembling any threaded connection. Apply compound evenly to male threads before assembly in accordance with local plumbing and gas codes, including applicable IPC and IFGC requirements. Do not use on oxygen lines under any circumstances.
