The NVENT NT1181L is a Cadweld One Shot exothermic welding connector designed to bond cable directly to a ground rod. It provides a permanent, molecular-level weld between the cable and rod, creating a connection that will not loosen, corrode, or increase in resistance over time. This type of connection is required in grounding systems where mechanical connectors are not acceptable. Licensed electricians and grounding specialists install this product during the grounding phase of electrical system construction or upgrades. The NT1181L is suited for a 3/4 inch diameter ground rod and supports a solid cable conductor configuration.
This fitting is used in traditional exothermic welding applications where a reliable, maintenance-free ground connection is needed. Typical installations include utility grounding, commercial electrical systems, telecommunications grounding, and industrial grounding infrastructure. The one-shot design means the weld material is pre-loaded into a single-use mold, simplifying field installation and reducing setup time on the job site. The connection type is cable to ground rod, making it appropriate for driving grounding electrodes in soil or concrete-encased electrode applications.
Designed as an OEM-style exothermic welding connector for cable-to-ground-rod applications using 3/4 inch diameter ground rods with solid conductor cable.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician or qualified grounding technician. De-energize all related circuits and verify lockout/tagout procedures are in place before beginning grounding work. Follow NFPA 70 (NEC) Article 250 guidelines for grounding electrode conductor connections. The one-shot mold is single-use only and must not be reused after firing; inspect the completed weld visually before backfilling or covering.
