The NU-CALGON 4173-04 Evap-Treat is a season-long scale and corrosion inhibitor designed for evaporative coolers, commonly called swamp coolers. It uses 6RST Micromet, a slowly soluble, food-grade inorganic glassy phosphate that sequesters hardness minerals before they can deposit as scale on pads, sumps, and internal components. The treatment is NSF-certified and formulated for systems where mineral-free water is impractical. HVAC technicians and maintenance crews place the unit directly in the cooler sump, where it dissolves gradually throughout the cooling season, eliminating the need for repeated chemical additions.
Evap-Treat is suited for residential and light commercial evaporative cooling installations operating in areas with hard or mineral-laden water. It is rated for coolers up to 10,000 CFM, covering a wide range of installed units from small residential window coolers to larger whole-house and commercial rooftop evaporative systems. It is appropriate wherever scale buildup shortens pad life, reduces airflow efficiency, or accelerates corrosion of sump components. A single unit lasts the full cooling season, making it a practical choice for annual preventive maintenance programs.
Designed for use in evaporative coolers and swamp coolers up to 10,000 CFM. Suitable for residential and light commercial systems where hard water conditions accelerate scale and corrosion in the sump and on evaporative pads.
Installation is performed by HVAC technicians or qualified maintenance personnel during seasonal startup or as part of a preventive maintenance program. Power the cooler off before accessing the sump. Place the Evap-Treat cartridge directly in the sump water and do not cut, crush, or modify the polyurethane foam housing, as the controlled dissolve rate depends on the intact form. Follow local water treatment disposal guidelines at end of season.
