The NORTON 66261162308 is a quick-change coated abrasive disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal surfaces. Part of the R980P series, it uses 100% ceramic alumina grain that continuously fractures during use, exposing fresh, sharp cutting edges throughout the disc life. The resin bond system locks grain in place to maximize retention under load, while a self-lubricating grain treatment reduces heat buildup and supports faster cut rates. At 36 grit, this is a very coarse disc built for high-stock-removal tasks including weld blending, deburring, and surface prep on stainless steel. A rigid polyester Y-weight backing holds geometry under pressure.
This disc is sized at 1.5 inches in diameter and attaches via the Speed-Lok TR (Type III) quick-change system with a Type R attaching button. It is rated for use on 300 Series and 400 Series stainless steel and is compatible with handheld disc sanders. The TR quick-change mount allows rapid disc swaps without tools, making it practical for production grinding, fabrication shops, and field maintenance work where downtime between disc changes needs to stay low. The orange disc color and black button are standard identifiers for the R980P series.
Compatible with handheld disc sanders equipped with a Speed-Lok TR (Type III) or Type R quick-change attaching system. Rated for use on 300 Series and 400 Series stainless steel.
Installation is performed by metal fabricators, maintenance technicians, and grinding operators using compatible handheld disc sanders. Before mounting, confirm the tool spindle accepts the TR (Type III) Speed-Lok button and that the tool RPM rating does not exceed the disc maximum of 30,000 RPM. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and discard any disc that shows cracking, delamination, or deformation. Always wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and grinding gloves when operating coated abrasive discs.
