The NORTON 66260273596 is a Type 1A1 diamond surface grinding wheel built for precision material removal on hard and brittle workpieces. It measures 6 inches in diameter with a 1/16-inch face thickness and a 1-1/4-inch arbor hole. The abrasive layer is synthetic diamond (SD) bonded in a resinoid matrix at 100 concentration, running at 100 grit for fine stock removal. Hardness is rated Soft (R), which helps the wheel release worn abrasive grains consistently during cut. This wheel is rated for both wet and dry operation and is oriented toward roughing applications. Machinists, tool grinders, and surface grinding technicians are the primary installers.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding operations on carbide tooling, ceramics, glass, and other hard or superabrasive-resistant materials. The 1/16-inch superabrasive depth with a 1/4-inch rim depth provides a focused cutting face appropriate for flat grinding passes. The Type 1A1 form factor fits standard surface grinding spindles that accept straight-wheel geometry. It is commonly used in job shops, tool rooms, and production grinding cells where consistent material removal and dimensional control are required.
Designed for use on surface grinding machines accepting a straight Type 1A1 wheel with a 6-inch diameter and 1-1/4-inch arbor bore. Confirm spindle speed rating against the wheel's marked maximum RPM before mounting.
Mounting and dressing of grinding wheels should be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding technician following ANSI B11.9 safety standards. Always de-energize and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting and perform a ring test. Use correct flanges and blotters, and run the wheel at operating speed in a guarded position for at least one minute before bringing it into contact with the workpiece.
