The NORTON 66253364108 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for demanding material removal on ferrous metals and exotic alloys. Built with a ceramic abrasive grain and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent stock removal and a self-sharpening cutting action suited for high-production surface and cylindrical grinding applications. At 14 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick with a 5-inch arbor hole, it mounts to standard surface grinder spindles and runs at a maximum of 1800 RPM. The 46 grit, coarse grade, G hardness construction is selected by experienced grinder operators when aggressive cutting action and fast material removal rates are the priority.
This wheel is rated for use on 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. It is designed for use on CNC cutting tool machines, cylindrical grinders, and surface grinders in both job shop and production environments. The blue ceramic grain and porous structure allow coolant penetration and reduce heat buildup during extended grinding passes, making it a practical choice for heat-sensitive workpieces and tight-tolerance surface finishing operations.
Rated for use with CNC cutting tool machines, cylindrical grinders, and surface grinders. Compatible material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Series designation 5SG Type 1 with specification code 5SG46-GVSP.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machine operator or maintenance technician familiar with grinding wheel safety procedures. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing a wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting and perform a ring test per ANSI B7.1 guidelines. Do not exceed the maximum rated speed of 1800 RPM; verify spindle speed before operation.
