The NORTON 66253263600 is a Type 7 recessed surface grinding wheel engineered for precision stock removal on soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys. It measures 12 inches in diameter and 2 inches thick with a 5-inch arbor hole, and weighs 13.85 pounds. The abrasive is white aluminum oxide in a vitrified bond, rated at a coarse 46 grit with an I hardness code (medium hardness rating). Maximum operating speed is 2,070 RPM. The wheel carries the internal specification designation 38A46-IVBE and belongs to the 38A Type 7 series. This wheel is intended for use by machinists and grinding specialists on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders in production and toolroom environments.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding and cylindrical grinding applications where consistent material removal and wheel integrity are required. It performs well on soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys. The semi-friable aluminum oxide abrasive continuously exposes fresh cutting edges during use, making it a practical choice for general toolroom work as well as production grinding runs. The two-sided recess geometry (recess depth 0.5 inches, recess diameter 7.5 inches) is specific to Type 7 wheel mounting configurations.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. Rated for soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys per manufacturer specification. Confirm arbor hole size, flange recess dimensions, and machine RPM rating before installation.
Mounting and dressing of grinding wheels must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety standards. Always power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting, and never exceed the maximum RPM stamped on the wheel. A blade or diamond dresser should be used to true and dress the wheel after installation and before the first cut.
