The NORTON 66253044102 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel built for high-performance stock removal and precision finishing on hard ferrous metals and exotic alloys. The wheel measures 8 inches in diameter by 3/4 inches thick with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. It uses a ceramic abrasive grain bonded in a vitrified matrix, rated at J hardness and medium grade, with a semi-friable structure that continuously exposes fresh cutting edges during use. The 5SG specification designates NORTONs seeded-gel ceramic abrasive, which delivers cooler cutting and longer wheel life compared to conventional aluminum oxide. Maximum rated speed is 3600 RPM. Installed and dressed by skilled grinding machine operators or toolroom machinists.
This wheel is suited for flat surface grinding operations on demanding materials including 400 Series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Compatible machine types include surface grinders and cylindrical grinders as well as CNC cutting tool machines. The porous, open structure helps clear swarf and reduce heat buildup during aggressive cut cycles, making it a practical choice for production toolrooms and maintenance grinding applications where workpiece metallurgy demands a more aggressive abrasive than standard aluminum oxide.

Grinding wheel installation and dressing should be performed by a qualified machine operator following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or changing wheels. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before installation, and never exceed the maximum rated RPM of 3600. Use proper flanges and a compressible blotter between the flange and wheel face; do not over-tighten the arbor nut.
