The NORTON 66252940194 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for aggressive stock removal on hard ferrous metals and specialty alloys. Built with a ceramic abrasive grain and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cutting action and thermal resistance under high-cycle surface and cylindrical grinding conditions. At 7 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole, it mounts directly to standard surface grinder spindles. The 46-grit coarse grade and J hardness code target applications where fast material removal takes priority over fine surface finish. Maximum operating speed is 3,600 RPM.
This wheel is suited for production and job-shop grinding of 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The 5SG ceramic grain is semi-friable, meaning it fractures under load to expose fresh cutting edges, making it especially effective on hard, heat-sensitive materials that would glaze or burn under conventional aluminum oxide wheels. Installation should be performed by a qualified grinding machine operator following ANSI B7.1 safety standards for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels. Before mounting, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test, and verify that the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3,600 RPM rating marked on the wheel. Use proper flange hardware and blotter pads to distribute clamping force evenly, and never exceed the rated arbor hole size. Always dress the wheel after mounting and run it under the wheel guard at operating speed for at least one minute before contacting the workpiece.
