The NORTON 662528-37194 is a Type 1 silicon carbide bench and pedestal grinding wheel designed for sharpening and finishing non-metallic materials. The wheel measures 6 inches in diameter, 1 inch wide, and carries a 1-inch arbor bore. An extra fine grit rating makes it well suited for precision edge refinement and surface finishing rather than aggressive stock removal. The green silicon carbide abrasive is the correct choice for hard, brittle non-metals such as carbide tooling, ceramics, and similar materials. Maximum operating speed is 4140 RPM. Licensed tradespeople and skilled sharpeners install this wheel on standard bench or pedestal grinder machines.
This wheel is used in machine shops, tool rooms, and maintenance facilities where non-metallic workpieces require precision grinding or edge work. Typical applications include dressing carbide-tipped tooling, finishing ceramic components, and fine-tuning cutting edges on materials that would load or glaze an aluminum oxide wheel. It is sold individually and is appropriate for both professional shop environments and skilled trade use.
Designed as a standard Type 1 replacement grinding wheel for bench and pedestal grinders accepting a 1-inch arbor bore and rated for 4140 RPM or higher.
Grinding wheel installation should be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety standards. Always power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting, and perform a ring test by tapping lightly with a non-metallic mallet. Never exceed the maximum RPM stamped on the wheel, and ensure the machine spindle speed does not surpass the wheel rating.
