The NORTHWESTERN OHIO FOAM PRODUCTS EBAR-464X5 is an expanded polystyrene (EPS) underslab insulation and vapor retarder roll designed for radiant floor heating installations. The roll measures 1.25 inches thick, 4 feet wide, and 64 feet long, providing 256 square feet of coverage per roll. Its flexible EPS core delivers an R-value of 5.3 at 25 degrees F and 4.5 at 75 degrees F, reducing heat loss downward through the slab so radiant energy transfers efficiently into the living space above. Vapor-retarding films are bonded to both sides of the core. A patented self-taping edge and overlapping flange allow seam-free installation without additional tape or separate vapor barrier materials. Licensed plumbers and radiant heating contractors are the primary installers.
The EBAR-464X5 is intended for underslab applications in residential and light commercial radiant floor heating projects. It is placed directly on the subgrade or aggregate base before concrete is poured. The combination of thermal insulation and integrated vapor retarder makes it suited for slab-on-grade construction where both heat retention and moisture control are required. The roll format and flexible EPS core allow it to conform to layout changes and irregular floor plans without cracking or breaking during handling.
Designed as an underslab insulation and vapor retarder for radiant floor heating systems installed beneath poured concrete slabs in residential and light commercial construction.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or radiant heating contractors as part of the rough-in phase before concrete placement. Power down and pressure-test any embedded radiant tubing per the system manufacturer's instructions before the slab is poured. Ensure the subgrade is properly compacted and free of sharp objects that could puncture the film facing. Follow applicable building codes and the project engineer's specifications for vapor retarder overlap and perimeter detailing.
