The NOMACO PETRFIT3 is a transition fitting designed to connect steel pipe to polyethylene (poly) pipe in a single, secure joint. This type of fitting serves as the mechanical and material bridge between metallic and thermoplastic piping systems, allowing installers to transition from one pipe material to the other without additional adapters. It is rated for 3-inch pipe and is typically installed by licensed plumbers or gas fitters working on underground or above-ground distribution lines where material changes occur at service entry points or system boundaries.
This fitting is suited for applications where steel and polyethylene piping meet, such as natural gas or LP gas distribution systems, water service lines, or industrial piping runs. The 3-inch size fits mid-range distribution lines commonly found in light commercial and larger residential installations. It is installed at the point where the piping material transitions, often at a meter set, building entry, or main line tap.
Designed as an OEM-style transition fitting for 3-inch steel to polyethylene pipe connections in gas and water distribution piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified gas fitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the IFGC or IPC. Shut off all gas or water flow and verify zero pressure in the line before beginning work. Polyethylene side connections are typically made using approved fusion or mechanical joining methods per the pipe manufacturer's requirements. Steel side connections should be made with appropriate thread sealant or welding as required by the system design and local code.
