The NIKCOLE MINI-SYSTEMS GIE7SG0.8L C2 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision left-hand grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a C2 carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating, which helps extend tool life on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The SG chip breaker geometry controls chip flow in shallow-to-medium depth groove cuts. With a cutting width of 0.80 mm (0.0315 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.54 mm (0.1000 inches), this insert is suited for fine, tight-tolerance groove profiles where dimensional consistency is critical. It is secured by a screw-clamping holding method for positive, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders.
This insert is used in production and job-shop turning environments where left-hand grooving of small-diameter features is required. Typical applications include internal and external groove machining on shafts, bushings, and precision-turned components. The GIE insert style and 7SG08 size code place it within the Nikcole Mini-Systems toolholder family, making it a direct fit for holders designed around that system. It is installed and changed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working with small-part turning operations.
Designed for use with Nikcole Mini-Systems GIE-series toolholders that accept the 7SG08 insert size in a left-hand configuration. Confirm toolholder insert pocket specifications before ordering.
Insert changes should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state per applicable OSHA lockout-tagout procedures. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver or screw key for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Verify cutting direction and toolholder hand orientation match the programmed tool path before resuming operation.
