The NIKCOLE MINI-SYSTEMS GIE7 SG 0.8R C6 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the GIE insert style with a C6 carbide grade, it delivers a 0.8 mm (0.0315 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.54 mm (0.100 inch). The SG chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during tight-tolerance groove cuts. Screw-held mounting ensures positive insert seating and consistent repeatability across production runs. This insert is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals working in job shop and production turning environments.
This right-hand grooving insert is suited for external grooving applications on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where close-width grooves and repeatable depth control are required. The C6 carbide grade positions it for general-purpose turning at moderate cutting speeds. With an overall length of 17.00 mm (0.6693 inch), a cutting height of 7.00 mm (0.2756 inch), and an overall width of 2.00 mm (0.0787 inch), it fits toolholders configured for the Nikcole Mini-Systems series. Typical applications include snap-ring grooves, undercuts, and thread relief cuts on shaft and bore workpieces.
Designed for use with Nikcole Mini-Systems series toolholders that accept the GIE insert style with screw-held clamping. Consult the Nikcole Mini-Systems toolholder selection guide to confirm holder compatibility with the GIE7 SG insert size code before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle stopped and all power isolated before insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range - do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to cracking under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert. Confirm cutting direction and tool overhang are appropriate for the programmed feed rate and depth before resuming operation.
