The NIKCOLE MINI-SYSTEMS GIE-7SC3L C5PVD is a solid carbide turning insert designed for grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process, which improves surface hardness and wear resistance during interrupted or continuous cuts. The insert is left-hand orientation, sized at 17 mm in length (0.6690 decimal inch) with a width of 3.17 mm (0.1250 inch) and a thickness of 0.1248 inch. Grade C5 carbide construction makes it suitable for moderate-to-high cutting speeds on ferrous materials. It is held in place via screw clamping and offers two cutting edges per insert.
This insert is intended for grooving applications in production and job-shop turning environments. Its primary workpiece materials are stainless steel and steel, designated by workpiece material code M. The Mini-Systems series is built for small-part turning and grooving where precision groove width and depth control are critical. A maximum depth of cut of 0.2360 inch and an insert size code of 7 keep it well-suited for light to medium grooving passes. Machinists and CNC operators working with tight-tolerance components in aerospace, medical, or general metal fabrication will find this insert a practical fit for their tool holders.
Designed for use in NIKCOLE Mini-Systems series left-hand screw-clamp tool holders accepting GIE-style inserts with insert size code 7 and a 1/8-inch width. Verify holder designation and hand orientation before ordering.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered off and in a locked-out state. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw - do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Confirm correct left-hand orientation relative to the tool holder before resuming cutting operations.
