The NIBCO PRESRED234 is a copper press reducing coupling designed to connect two different pipe sizes in a pressurized water system without soldering. This fitting transitions a 2-inch press connection down to a 3/4-inch press connection, making it suitable for trunk-and-branch configurations and flow-reduction tie-ins. Press-style fittings require a compatible pressing tool with the correct jaw profile to create a leak-free mechanical connection. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this type of fitting in residential and light commercial applications.
This coupling is used where a main supply line must be reduced to serve a smaller branch line. Common install scenarios include domestic water distribution systems, hydronic heating piping, and similar closed-loop or potable water configurations. The press connection style eliminates open flame, which is particularly valuable in retrofit work near combustible materials or in tight mechanical spaces where torch access is restricted.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for copper press piping systems requiring a 2-inch to 3/4-inch reducing connection.
Installation requires a calibrated press tool fitted with the correct jaw size for each end of the fitting — 2-inch and 3/4-inch jaws must be used separately on their respective ends. Shut off and depressurize the water supply before making any connections. Follow all applicable plumbing codes, including IPC and local amendments, for press-fit copper fittings in potable or hydronic systems. Inspect the pipe ends for burrs or out-of-round deformation before pressing to ensure a proper seal.
