The NIBCO CC08550 is a 1-inch Schedule 80 polypropylene socket union designed for joining and disconnecting sections of plastic piping systems. It features a slip socket inlet on one end and a slip ring female iron pipe thread (SR FIPT) on the other, allowing the union to be broken and rejoined without cutting pipe. Rated for a maximum working temperature of 180 degrees F, this union is suited for corrosive or chemical service lines where metal fittings are not appropriate. Plumbers and pipefitters install this component in industrial, commercial, and process-piping applications.
This union is used in Schedule 80 thermoplastic piping systems handling corrosive fluids, chemicals, or water in settings where the line must be periodically disconnected for maintenance or equipment service. The polypropylene construction and black color indicate suitability for chemical-resistance applications. It meets ASTM D4101 standards for polypropylene pipe fittings material. Typical installation locations include chemical feed lines, industrial process loops, and water treatment systems requiring serviceable unions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1-inch Schedule 80 polypropylene piping systems with slip socket and SR FIPT connections conforming to ASTM D4101.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter. Depressurize and drain the line completely before disassembling or installing the union. Solvent-cement the slip socket ends per the pipe and fitting manufacturer cement recommendations for polypropylene; do not use PVC cement on polypropylene fittings. Follow applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements for plastic piping in chemical or high-temperature service.
