The MUELLER STREAMLINE COREDFTGC42 is a copper reducing coupling configured in a Ftg x C end pattern, designed to transition from a 4-inch fitting-end connection to a 2-inch sweat (C) connection in a copper piping system. This fitting is used by licensed plumbers to reduce pipe size within a run without the need for additional adapters. The Ftg x C configuration means one end slips over a copper tube like a fitting and the other end accepts a standard copper tube for soldering, making it a direct inline reducer.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and commercial plumbing systems where copper supply lines require a step-down in diameter. Typical installations include main-to-branch transitions in domestic water distribution, hydronic heating piping, and similar pressure-rated copper systems. The 4-inch to 2-inch size reduction makes it appropriate for larger-diameter main lines feeding smaller branch runs, a common configuration in multi-unit residential and light commercial construction.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for copper piping systems requiring a 4-inch to 2-inch reducing connection with a Ftg x C end configuration.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber using standard copper soldering tools including a torch, flux, and lead-free solder in compliance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Shut off and drain the water supply completely before cutting into any existing line. Clean and flux all mating surfaces thoroughly before applying heat to ensure a leak-free joint. Do not apply flux inside the fitting bore until ready to solder, as premature oxidation can compromise the joint.
