The MUELLER STREAMLINE 5948 is a reducing hub coupling designed for drain, waste, and vent (DWV) piping systems. It connects a 2-inch pipe to a 1-1/2-inch pipe using a hub-by-hub end connection, making it a straightforward choice for reducing transitions in gravity-flow drainage lines. Constructed from PVC conforming to ASTM D2665, F1498, D331, and D1784, the fitting delivers strong chemical resistance and corrosion resistance. Smooth interior walls minimize scaling and support unrestricted flow. Licensed plumbers and plumbing contractors install this fitting in both new construction and retrofit drain line applications.
This fitting is suited for residential and light commercial DWV applications where a pipe size reduction from 2 inches to 1-1/2 inches is required. Typical installations include branch line transitions, fixture drain connections, and horizontal drain runs where flow direction and gravity drainage must be maintained. Its chemical resistance also makes it appropriate for select chemical drainage applications where PVC is a compatible material. The fitting meets NSF 14 and UPC standards, supporting code-compliant installations in jurisdictions that adopt those criteria.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for PVC DWV piping systems requiring a 2-inch to 1-1/2-inch hub reducing coupling. Suitable for DWV, chemical drainage, and corrosion-resistant piping applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and ensure the drain line is fully depressurized and drained before cutting into an existing system. Use PVC primer and solvent cement rated for DWV applications and allow full cure time before returning the line to service. Do not apply mechanical force or torque to the fitting during the cure period.
