The MUELLER INDUSTRIES KH04005 is a Type K copper water tube manufactured from Grade C12200 phosphorus-deoxidized copper. At 5 feet in length with a 5/8-inch outside diameter, 0.500-inch inside diameter, and a 0.049-inch wall thickness, this tube meets the heavy-wall requirements of Type K service. Type K has the thickest wall of the standard copper tube series, making it the preferred choice for underground and critical potable water installations. It is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on residential and light commercial water supply systems. The tube conforms to ASTM B88 and NSF 61G, qualifying it for use in drinking water applications.
This tube is suited for underground water service lines, interior potable water distribution, and hydronic heating systems where Type K wall thickness is specified or required by local code. The 1/2-inch nominal size is among the most common in residential water supply rough-in work. At 0.344 pounds per foot, the 5-foot stick weighs approximately 1.72 pounds, making it easy to handle and cut on the job. Plumbers and mechanical contractors working to IPC or local plumbing code requirements will find this tube fits standard 1/2-inch copper fittings and valves.
Designed for use with standard 1/2-inch nominal Type K copper fittings, valves, and compression connections in potable water, hydronic, and underground water service applications conforming to ASTM B88.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the applicable edition of the International Plumbing Code or local plumbing authority requirements. Shut off and depressurize the water supply before cutting or connecting to existing lines. Use a tube cutter to achieve a clean, square cut, then deburr the inside edge before soldering, brazing, or press-fitting. Do not bend Type K straight-stick tube without appropriate bending tools, as kinking will reduce flow capacity and may cause joint failure.
