The MUELLER INDUSTRIES 491-602HC is a quarter-turn straight valve designed for inline shutoff service in residential and light commercial plumbing systems. It connects 1/2 inch PEX tubing to 3/8 inch outside diameter supply line, making it a direct-fit solution for fixture supply connections such as faucets, toilets, and ice makers. The quarter-turn ball-style mechanism provides fast, positive shutoff without requiring multiple handle rotations. Licensed plumbers and qualified plumbing contractors are the primary installers for this type of valve in new construction and retrofit applications.
This valve is suited for under-sink and in-wall applications where a PEX supply line terminates at a standard fixture shutoff point. The 1/2 inch PEX inlet accommodates standard residential PEX distribution tubing, while the 3/8 inch OD compression outlet accepts most braided or solid supply lines used with faucets and toilets. It is commonly installed during finish plumbing on residential builds and during fixture replacement on existing systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation straight shutoff valve for residential plumbing systems using 1/2 inch PEX supply distribution and 3/8 inch OD compression fixture connections. Also cataloged under part number 191-832HC.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off the main water supply and relieve line pressure before removing or installing any shutoff valve. Ensure the PEX tubing is cut cleanly and squarely and that the correct PEX fitting tool is used for the inlet connection type. Do not overtighten the compression fitting on the 3/8 inch OD outlet, as this can deform the ferrule and cause leaks.
