The MUELLER INDUSTRIES 15700 is a wrot copper pipe bushing designed to reduce a 1-inch copper line to a 1/2-inch copper line using a sweat (C x C) end connection on both ends. Wrot copper construction means this fitting is formed from wrought copper stock, giving it a dense, uniform grain structure well suited to soldered pressure connections in plumbing and HVAC refrigerant piping. The outside diameter measures 1-1/8 inches on the larger end and 5/8 inches on the smaller end. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians use this type of bushing when a reducer coupling is not practical and an inline concentric transition is needed.
This bushing is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems, hydronic heating lines, and HVAC copper refrigerant or water piping where a concentric reduction from 1 inch to 1/2 inch is required. The C x C configuration means both ends are designed for a standard sweat solder joint. It is a common fitting in new construction rough-in, remodel tie-ins, and service work where existing pipe sizes must be stepped down at a branch or equipment connection point.
Designed as an OEM-style sweat fitting compatible with standard 1-inch and 1/2-inch wrot copper pipe and tubing systems following ASME B16.22 dimensional standards for wrought copper and copper alloy solder-joint pressure fittings.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or HVAC technicians using standard soldering tools including a torch, flux, and lead-free solder in compliance with local plumbing codes and IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the water or refrigerant line completely and allow it to cool before cutting and fitting. Clean both the pipe ends and fitting cups thoroughly with emery cloth and apply flux before soldering to ensure a leak-free joint. Do not apply heat directly to the fitting cup for extended periods, as overheating can damage the copper grain structure.
