The MITUTOYO 2356AB-10 is a lever-style dial drop indicator designed for high-precision dimensional measurement in machining, inspection, and quality-control applications. It features a jeweled bearing mechanism and a dial graduation of 0.0001 inches, delivering an accuracy of 0.0001 inches across a 0-10 dial reading range. The range per revolution is 0.0100 inches. The white dial face provides clear contrast for fast reading under shop-floor conditions. This instrument is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and metrology professionals who require reliable, repeatable surface and runout measurements.
The 2356AB-10 is suited for use in precision measurement setups on machine tools, surface plates, and inspection fixtures in both production and job-shop environments. Its clamp-on base mount type allows straightforward mounting to standard indicator holders, magnetic bases, and transfer stands. The flat back design accommodates close-clearance mounting situations. With a 3/8-inch stem diameter, it fits standard clamp-on mounting hardware used across most inspection and machining setups. This indicator is well-matched to dimensional verification tasks where 0.0001-inch resolution is required.
Designed as an OEM-style dial drop indicator compatible with standard clamp-on indicator holders and magnetic bases accepting a 3/8-inch stem diameter, typical of Series 2 Mitutoyo indicator accessories and general-purpose inspection setups.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians. Secure the 3/8-inch stem in the clamp-on holder and tighten the clamp sufficiently to prevent indicator movement during measurement without deforming the stem. Before zeroing, ensure the contact point is properly seated and preloaded against the reference surface. Handle the dial face and bezel with care to avoid damage to the graduated scale; do not exceed the instrument's stated measuring range.
