The MITUTOYO 2044A is a plunger-style dial drop indicator designed for precision dimensional measurement in machining, metrology, and quality-control applications. It provides a measurement range of 0 to 5.00 mm with a dial graduation of 0.0100 mm and an accuracy of 0.012 mm, making it suitable for surface comparison, runout checks, and fixture alignment work. The 0-100 dial reading face allows straightforward interpretation across one revolution of 1.00 mm of travel. Metrology technicians, machinists, and quality inspectors rely on this type of indicator for repeatable contact-measurement tasks on production floors and inspection benches.
The 2044A is appropriate for use in both production and inspection environments where close-tolerance surface variation needs to be detected and recorded. Its plunger indicator style is commonly mounted in comparator stands, surface plates, and fixture setups for inspecting parts against a known datum. The lug back and clamp-on base mount type allow flexible positioning in a variety of holding fixtures and magnetic-base arms. Plain bearing construction keeps the mechanism straightforward to maintain in shop conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style plunger dial indicator for use with standard comparator stands, magnetic bases, and indicator holders that accept a lug-back, clamp-on mount configuration.
Mounting and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or metrology technician familiar with indicator mounting practices. Secure the lug back in the holder before bringing the contact point to the workpiece to avoid damage to the measuring mechanism. Zero the indicator against a known reference surface before taking measurements. Avoid side-loading the plunger spindle, as this can affect accuracy and bearing wear over time.
