The MITUTOYO 103009 is a ball-style contact point designed for use with dial test indicators in precision measurement applications. The contact tip measures 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm) in diameter and the contact point length is 1.04 inches. Constructed from steel, this contact point delivers the durability and dimensional consistency required for repeatable surface and runout measurements. Machinists, tool and die makers, and quality control technicians rely on contact points like this to maintain accuracy when sweeping bores, checking part geometry, or indicating off fixtures and vee-blocks.
This contact point is suited for shop-floor and inspection-room environments where dial test indicators are used to verify part alignment, measure deflection, or check concentricity. The ball-style tip is commonly preferred over flat or pointed tips when contacting curved surfaces or when the measurement axis is not perpendicular to the surface being checked. It threads onto the indicator spindle using the standard contact point thread and replaces worn or damaged tips quickly without tools in most cases.
Designed for use with Mitutoyo 513 Series Dial Test Indicators.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or metrology technicians. Before replacing the contact point, remove the indicator from any magnetic base, fixture clamp, or holding arm and verify the spindle is at rest. Thread the contact point onto the indicator spindle by hand and snug only — avoid over-tightening, which can damage the spindle threads. After installation, verify zero and re-check indicator calibration against a reference surface before returning the instrument to service.
