The MITSUBISHI 100694 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMA431 geometry, designed for precision material removal on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It carries the HTi10 manufacturer grade, which targets high wear-resistance applications on cast iron and non-ferrous metals. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0160-inch corner radius. With a negative rake and negative side clearance, it is engineered for stable, rigid setups. The cutting edge is honed and the chip breaker is a flat-top design, suited for consistent chip control across turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert is uncoated, keeping the carbide substrate fully exposed for maximum thermal conductivity when cutting aluminum and similar non-ferrous alloys.
This insert is appropriate for use in residential machine shops, production turning cells, and job shops running cast iron components or non-ferrous workpieces such as aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. It fits standard CNMA-style toolholders that accept clamp or pin holding methods. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand holder configurations. Typical operations include external turning, facing passes, and light boring where a negative-geometry insert provides the rigidity required for consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CNMA-style toolholders accepting ANSI size code 431 or ISO size code 120404 inserts using clamp or pin holding methods.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the toolholder secured in the turret before seating or indexing the insert. Confirm the seating pocket and clamp components are free of chips and debris before clamping to ensure proper insert location and prevent premature edge failure. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.1692 inches as specified for this insert geometry.
