The MITEE-BITE 31550 is an aluminum internal-diameter (ID) expansion clamp designed to grip workpieces from the inside by expanding radially outward. It delivers 6,000 pounds of holding force across an expansion diameter range of 1.15 to 9.85 inches, making it suitable for a wide variety of bore sizes in a single clamp. The 31550 mounts to a fixture plate or tombstone via three mounting holes and a 1/4-20 mounting screw, while a 5/8-11 center screw drives the expansion mechanism. A locking ring is included to keep the segments rigid during setup and machining operations. Installation and operation are performed by machinists and fixture builders in production and job-shop environments.
The MITEE-BITE 31550 is used in CNC machining, milling, turning, and fixture workholding applications where a part must be clamped by its internal bore or recess. It is well suited for chucking rings, flanged components, housings, and other workpieces with bores ranging from 1.15 to 9.85 inches. The large expansion range allows a single clamp to cover multiple part families, reducing fixture changeover time. The aluminum body keeps overall clamp weight low while maintaining rigidity under the rated holding force.
Designed as an OEM-style workholding component for use with standard fixture plates, tombstones, and subplates drilled to accept a 5.25 inch mount hole bolt circle with three mounting holes on 1/4-20 thread pattern.
Installation is performed by machinists and fixture engineers familiar with workholding setups. Power down and lock out all machine axes before mounting or adjusting the clamp on the fixture plate. Torque the center screw to the rated 125 foot-pounds using a calibrated torque wrench to achieve full rated holding force; do not exceed this value. Verify that all three mounting screws are fully seated and that the locking ring is engaged before initiating a machining cycle.
