The MILWAUKEE TOOL 49-57-5121 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting 8-32 unified coarse internal threads in through-holes and accessible blind holes. Built from high-carbon steel with a black oxide finish, it offers good wear resistance and corrosion protection for general-purpose tapping applications. The plug chamfer style features a gradual lead-in that distributes cutting load across several threads, making it well-suited for production work and repair threading. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals install this tap by hand or with a tapping fixture to produce clean, accurate 2B-class threads in a range of workpiece materials.
This tap is used in light manufacturing, MRO maintenance, and field repair applications where 8-32 machine screw threads are required. Its 3-flute straight configuration performs well in shorter chipping materials such as aluminum, mild steel, and plastic. The compact 2.25-inch overall length fits standard tap wrenches and T-handle drivers used in both shop and field settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement straight flute tap for applications requiring 8-32 unified coarse internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
A licensed machinist or experienced maintenance technician should install this tap using a properly aligned tap wrench or tapping fixture to prevent breakage. Secure the workpiece firmly and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before starting. Back the tap out periodically to break and clear chips, especially in deeper holes. Never force a tap against resistance — back off and clear chips before continuing.
