The MIDWEST TOOL R281C1 is a surface mount, metered ringless service entrance device rated for 200 amperes at 120/240 volts, 1-phase. It is designed for residential and light commercial electrical service installations where the utility meter and main disconnect are integrated into a single enclosure. Built from G90 galvanized steel with a zinc-coated, polyester powder coat finish, the enclosure meets NEMA 3R requirements for outdoor use and carries UL listing. All components arrive factory wired and assembled, which reduces on-site installation time. The dead front construction prevents accidental contact with energized parts, and a padlock provision secures the enclosure against unauthorized access.
The R281C1 is suited for surface mounting on exterior walls in residential new construction and service upgrade applications. It accepts a wide range of wire sizes across multiple termination points, including conductors up to 350 KCMIL at the line meter socket and load base lugs accepting 1 to 4 AWG stranded copper or aluminum. Loop-feed terminals and a broad range of concentric knockouts allow flexibility in conduit routing and wiring configurations. The unit accommodates copper or aluminum conductors at all terminals, making it compatible with both legacy and current utility service conductor materials. The removable door simplifies installation in tight service locations.
Designed as an OEM-style surface mount service entrance unit for residential and light commercial 200-amp, 1-phase electrical service applications. First position circuit breaker type is CB4200H.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and verify absence of voltage at the service entrance before beginning any wiring work. Utility coordination is typically required before connecting or disconnecting the meter socket. The removable door should be taken off prior to mounting the enclosure to simplify fastener access.
