The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES SS5404-04-02 is a reducing hex nipple designed to connect two male NPTF threaded lines of different sizes in high-pressure fluid and gas piping systems. It steps down from a 1/4-inch male NPTF connection to a 1/8-inch male NPTF connection and measures 1.259 inches in length. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, it is rated for pressures up to 8000 psi and temperatures up to 1000 degrees F. This fitting is installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians working on fuel, hydraulic, instrumentation, or compressed-gas lines where corrosion resistance and pressure integrity are critical.
This fitting is suited for residential and commercial applications involving stainless steel pipe assemblies, instrumentation tubing, and high-pressure fluid transfer systems. It is commonly used wherever a compact, threaded size reduction is needed inline without additional fittings. The 1/4-18 x 1/8-27 thread specification conforms to ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 standards, making it compatible with standard NPT and NPTF pipe thread tooling and mating fittings used across plumbing, HVAC, and industrial service work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for stainless steel pipe assemblies using 1/4-inch and 1/8-inch male NPTF threaded connections in plumbing, HVAC, instrumentation, and high-pressure fluid systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter familiar with NPTF thread assembly and applicable codes including IPC and IFGC where gas service is involved. Depressurize and isolate the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant rated for the service media and pressure; NPTF threads provide a pressure-tight seal through thread interference, but sealant is still recommended for most applications. Use a properly sized wrench on the hex body to avoid distorting the fitting or damaging mating threads.
