The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES LF242X8X6 is a lead-free brass reducing union designed to connect two flare lines of different diameters in a single inline fitting. It accepts a 1/2 inch 45-degree male flared connection on one end and a 3/8 inch 45-degree male flared connection on the other, using 3/4-16 and 5/8-18 thread specifications respectively. Built from lead-free brass, this fitting meets requirements for potable and non-potable fluid systems where lead-free compliance is required. It is rated for temperatures from -40 to 250 degrees F. Licensed HVAC technicians and plumbers install this fitting in refrigerant, fuel gas, and other fluid-carrying line sets.
This reducing union is suited for residential and light commercial applications where two flare lines of differing sizes must be joined without additional adapters. Compatible tubing materials include aluminum, brass, copper, and steel. Typical installation scenarios include refrigerant line transitions, LP and natural gas supply connections, and hydraulic or compressed-air lines within the rated temperature range. The compact overall footprint makes it practical in confined mechanical spaces.
Designed for use with aluminum, brass, copper, or steel tubing in standard 45-degree flare systems. Suitable as a direct-connect reducing union wherever 1/2 in to 3/8 in flare line transitions are required within the rated temperature and pressure range.
Installation should be performed by a qualified HVAC technician or licensed plumber in accordance with applicable mechanical and plumbing codes. Depressurize and isolate the line before disassembly or fitting installation. Flare ends must be properly formed and inspected before makeup to ensure a leak-free seat. Do not over-torque flare nuts, as brass fittings can be damaged by excessive force.
