The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 972172 is a Type L copper tubing coil rated for drinking water and plumbing service. It measures 3/8 inches inside diameter and 1/2 inch outside diameter, with a wall thickness of 0.035 inches. The 60-foot coil delivers a working pressure of 770 psi and handles temperatures from 32 degrees F to 180 degrees F. Licensed plumbers and mechanical contractors install this tubing in residential and light commercial potable water distribution systems, hydronic heating lines, and refrigeration applications where Type L copper is specified by code.
Type L copper tubing is the standard wall designation recognized by ASTM B88 for interior water supply lines. This coil length is well suited for runs requiring minimal fittings, reducing potential leak points in a finished installation. The drinking water category rating makes it appropriate for systems governed by local plumbing codes that require NSF-listed or code-compliant copper supply lines. Plumbers working on new construction, remodels, or service replacements will find the 60-foot coil length practical for a range of residential and small commercial jobs.
Designed as a standard Type L copper tubing replacement or new-installation material for residential and light commercial potable water, hydronic, and refrigeration piping systems requiring 3/8 inch inside diameter copper tube.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before cutting or joining. Use a pipe cutter sized for 1/2 inch OD copper and clean all cut ends with a deburring tool before soldering, pressing, or flaring. Do not bend the coil to a radius tighter than the minimum bend specification for 3/8 inch Type L copper to avoid kinking the wall.
