The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 970705 is a tapped countersunk cleanout plug designed for use in drain, waste, and vent piping systems where access points require a secure, pressure-rated closure. Cast from brass, this plug features a 4-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connection and a 4-8 thread count on the countersunk body. It is rated for 150 psi service, making it suitable for pressurized line testing and standard drain system applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting during new construction and retrofit work where code-compliant cleanout access is required.
This cleanout plug is intended for residential and light commercial plumbing installations where a tapped countersunk configuration is specified. The 1/4-20 internal tap allows a removal tool or plug key to be used for serviceability. Marked for Southern Code compliance, it is appropriate for jurisdictions that reference those plumbing code standards. Typical applications include main drain cleanouts, horizontal branch cleanouts, and sewer lateral access points.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 4-inch MPT cleanout openings in residential and commercial drain, waste, and vent piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the applicable local plumbing code, including IPC or applicable Southern Code provisions. Shut off flow and depressurize the line before removing or installing any cleanout plug. Apply appropriate thread sealant or tape to the MPT threads before seating the plug. Do not overtighten cast brass fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque.
