The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 970702 is a tapped countersunk cleanout plug designed for sealing cleanout access points in drain, waste, and vent piping systems. Cast from brass, it features a 2-1/2-inch MIP (male iron pipe) threaded connection with a 2-1/2-8 thread specification and is rated for service up to 150 psi. A 1/4-20 tapped center hole is machined into the countersunk head, allowing the plug to be extracted with a standard bolt or lifting tool. Licensed plumbers install this fitting during rough-in and maintenance work on residential and light commercial drain systems.

This cleanout plug is used wherever a threaded cleanout access point requires a flush or recessed closure. Installation Notes

Installation and removal should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Before servicing any cleanout fitting, isolate the affected drain line and confirm the system is depressurized. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the MIP threads before seating the plug. To remove, thread a 1/4-20 bolt into the tapped center hole and back the plug out evenly to avoid galling the brass threads.
